Apparently Chance may have come close to outgrowing the Leapster so in some sort of switch trick he has a new device while Jack has unknowingly received a "new" leapster for his birthday. Here is a nice clip of Chance trying to help Jack out...

Tennis with Chance
I shot some video of Chance working on his serve the other day. Maybe Grandpa Phillips can offer some tips as a virtual coach...

Chance's soccer team - first game
Last year Chance ended up playing baseball so he is now getting back to soccer after a 2 year break. Fortunately, his friend Thomas' dad Craig is a great soccer coach that can give him great direction and has returned a veteran team. Unfortunately, the video camera locked up during the 1st game sequence and I couldn't get anything else to record except the pre-game pictures and interview with the coach. But the coaching tendem of Craig and Beth turned in great 1st game results - congratulations to them! (Coach Craig is also a long time friend so he tends to be an especially good sport when I flip it to him.)

March 21 - Jack's birthday weekend - trip to Tanglewood farms
About 30 minutes away there is an animal farm that does a great job of putting on birthday parties for kids. Jack had his 4th birthday party there this past weekend.
With the Flip Video recorder, here are several videos taken with a short label for any of you who may be looking for your kid in particular and want to avoid wading through all of them.

To let the kids know that it was time to move on to the next section of the farm, they rang a cowbell. Of course, sometimes the kids were not responsive enough so what did they need to do? We need more cowbell...

GA 529 plan for kids college savings
Somehow I missed the fact that in 2007 governor Sonny Perdue changed the income restrictions on getting a tax deduction for 529 plan contributions in Georgia. It is actually still possible to make a contribution now for tax year 2008 if you haven't already filed your taxes. You can deduct up to $2,000 per contribution per beneficiary from Ga taxes. Here is the web site, but if you want to do the 2008 contribution it says you need to call them at the phone # listed.

trip videos from snow tubing, etc
last night I uploaded a clip from the snow tubing to facebook. here is the full set of videos taken for those who actually have time to go through. actually, the multi-upload plug in with gears on youtube didn't work, so there is the standard upload which you can queue with up to 10 videos so you can leave the PC to take care of the uploading. Here is the pre-snow tubing video set:
(Warning - unless you are the actual participants in the video or their grandparents, you will probably not want to go through all these.)

More to come, but the browser was accidently closed on upload.

uploading videos
UPDATE: the multi-file upload feature with youtube has given me trouble for the 2nd time now and this time using someone else's wifi, so it may take some time to get them all up. I've been asked about how this even works to post so much stuff so quick so here is what I've figured out using the flip video HD mino so far. If anyone has any comments or suggestions for improvement please do pass them along. First, one of the challenges with limited time is that there just isn't much time to go back and do a lot of video editing. and of course you never know what will turn out good, interesting, or funny so I've basically been using the flip video to capture various activities frequently and with limited amounts of time per video. That helps because even a 20 sec video can be 32MB in HD so uploading around the house on a wifi can take a long time. Essentially, Facebook is where I'll plan to post only the best or simplified set of videos while this blog will be for more of an archive. Hopefully Google will allow these to stick around indefinitely but who knows. For folks like Mom & Dad, I really hope you will think more about getting on facebook so you can keep up with those. But this blog will remain wide open for those to access it just isn't meant to be so concise. ok, so what are the steps for this:
1. Take Flip Video with you in your pocket and if you get any downtime or what seems like a fun moment, capture on the video. It takes up to 1 hr before you must move over to computer or risk losing because you have to delete something at 1 hour of storage.
2. If just a video or 2 or 3, you can use the direct USB computer connection to upload direct to Youtube. This saves the step of transferring to the computer first before uploading, but the USB connection can seem slower sometimes than uploading direct from PC disk.
3. Either in Youtube or on disk, watch the clip to figure out what it is so you can include a brief note about each to help anyone out there who is actually going to wade through them..
4. If uploading to facebook, you have to load on pc disk first I think - but not sure - anyway same process essentially.
5. For this blog, copy the embedded link from the particular youtube video into the blog posting. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to do that directly since only the first few parts of the embedded link copy in direct. So I copy the link into Word and then copy over into the blog. Then post and you're done.
